Alcohol Detox

Alcohol detox implies the removal of alcohol from the body of an alcoholic. Alcohol detox is brought about by abstinence from alcohol, medication, and altering the diet of the patient. Detox is not possible without support from friends and family and a commitment on the part of the patient.

The liver and kidneys normally carry out detoxification in the body. However in hardened alcoholics, alternative detoxification processes become necessary. There are several general practitioners, nurses, and pharmacists who volunteer in detox centers for alcoholics.

Detox

In most cases, detoxification can be done at home. This is when the alcohol consumption is moderate, but in complicated cases that involve symptoms such as hallucinations, severe withdrawal symptoms, and multi-substance misuse, inpatient detoxification becomes necessary. Volunteers even conduct community detox programs, usually in compliance with the Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). Alcoholics attending AA meetings are stressed upon the need to be determined to give up alcohol.

Alcohol Detox

In extreme cases, medication is used to detoxify heavy drinkers. This is also termed pharmacological detoxification. Here, the patients are forewarned that they may suffer anxiety and insomnia for a couple of days. The most common drugs used for alcohol detoxification are benzodiazepines, with Chlordiazepoxide being the most preferred benzodiazepine used. Diazepam is also widely used, but fatal effects may occur if it is mixed with huge doses of alcohol. Hence, supervision is necessary for use of diazepam as a detoxifier.

A detoxification session usually lasts 5 to 6 weeks. The diet is to be protein-rich and with a generous amount of fiber and fluids, and the person should consume water throughout the day. Since most alcoholics have sugar problems, hypoglycemic substances should be consumed. Parsley and chamomile teas are effective alkaloids which stimulate kidney elimination processes.

Inpatient detox is carried out in rehabilitation centers, but there is a social stigma attached to being admitted in such rehab centers. Usually, such centers are located in the lesser-developed areas of the country, causing people from affluent classes to be reluctant to be admitted in them. Also, the ratio of workers to patients is generally 1:4, meaning that there is an emphasis on self-care.

Arbonne Detox Body Cleanse - Does the Arbonne Detox Body Cleanse Really Work?

The Arbonne detox body cleanse claims to be an all-natural body detox system that leaves you feeling refreshed, revitalized and cleanses within a short space of time. However if you are thinking of using this detox system or are just curious, then I advise you to read on as I have put together a review of the Arbonne detox that will hopefully shed some light on it for you.

So, does the Arbonne detox body cleanse really work?

Detox

Well, in a nutshell the answer is not really. Yes the Seasource detox lotion does have some of the properties that other detox systems use to help your body to detox, but the Arbonne system when I used it didn't work all that great for me personally.

Arbonne Detox Body Cleanse - Does the Arbonne Detox Body Cleanse Really Work?

Firstly, as with a lot of other detox products, they contain chemicals and agents that actively work with your body to achieve the results. I am not saying that these will or won't work for you, they may well do, but you need to be aware of what works for you and what doesn't to avoid potential disappointment.

Secondly, the detox that you get is largely for your skin and not a full detox. What I mean is that if you apply the lotion to your skin, then you may well be able to clear up some acne and revitalize it somewhat, but the fact remains that your body is still full of built up toxins and unwanted waste, and Arbonne will not get rid of these. It is these toxins inside your body that leave you feeling tired, sluggish, down and without energy or drive.

My best advice to you would be to use the Arbonne detox body cleanse for your skin needs and also focus on a system that will give your body a full, 100% detox that IS all-natural. The advantage of these systems is that because they are all-natural, they are also good for your overall health too and you will notice a dramatic improvement in just a short space of time.

The best detox system available by far is the Master Cleanse Detox, this system has been used by years by thousands of people to fully detox their body in just 10 days whilst improving their health and well-being at the same time, it really does work wonders. Even top celebs such as Beyonce and Robin Quivers use it so it must be good. Plus it won't break the bank like most other diet system do and costs less than for the complete instructional guide!

How Do I Detox From Alcohol?

The process of detoxifying from alcohol takes from three to seven days. The length of time to complete the detox process varies from one person to another depending on type of alcoholic beverage typically consumed, length of time as an alcoholic, size of the person, and the tolerance level for alcohol.

Detox should only be undertaken with medical supervision, preferably a doctor's. One of the safest methods for detoxifying the body is at an in-patient treatment center. Medical personnel who are trained and experienced in alcohol and drug withdrawal are available twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. They can monitor vital signs, administer medications and ensure that adequate food and fluid intake is maintained.

Detox

In many cases the alcoholic isn't 100% committed to this new way of life at the detox phase. The effects of detox can make even the strongest person pause. Knowingly subjecting yourself to possible tremors, anxiety, sweating, nausea and vomiting isn't the most appealing idea. That's why locating support before the detox process begins is critical.

How Do I Detox From Alcohol?

Family members, friends, or co-workers can give advice, encouragement and support. For someone who's not comfortable going to people he or she knows, Alcoholics Anonymous and other similar support groups can provide an anonymous source of assistance.

Once in the detox center, withdrawal symptoms can begin to appear anywhere from 3 hours to two days after the last drink. When the discomfort of withdrawal begins, the alcoholic is very likely to relapse without detox experts being on hand or nearby. That's because, up to the point of detox, alcohol has always relieved the withdrawal symptoms, and the patient now wants the same relief using the same substance.

Instead, the detox process will use prescription drugs. Some, like Klonepin, are used to reduce the physical symptoms. This does not mean that the recovering alcoholic will not experience any withdrawal symptoms during alcohol detox. Klonepin and similar drugs will, however, ease the symptoms. The detox process might involve the shakes (delirium tremens, or DTs) rather than vomiting, or hyperactivity and sleeplessness rather than convulsions.

Administration of Klonepin and close medical monitoring may be all that's needed to get the alcoholic through the withdrawal and detox phase. However, in approximately 1 out of 4 patients, an anticonvulsant like clonazepam or diazepam may be administered.

Recovery from alcohol addiction can't take place until the alcoholic has gone through the detox process. While the drug (alcohol) is still in the body, the body craves more. It's only after the body has been freed from the grip of the drug that the recovery process can begin.

True freedom from alcohol is a lifelong process. The alcoholic must first decide to stop drinking. Then he or she needs to detox from the alcohol, and once through detox move forward into lifelong recovery. It's not the most pleasant process, but it's definitely worth it. A support group and a good detox program can make all the difference between success and failure.

Milk Thistle Liver Detox

Milk Thistle is an excellent herb and milk thistle liver detox has been one of the most commonly used methods to aid liver detoxification.

What is Milk Thistle?

Detox

This herb (also called Silybum Marinanum or Carduus Marianus) is actually part of the daisy family (the same family as Echinacea, dandelion, chamomile and artichoke).

Milk Thistle Liver Detox

It is the queen of all the liver herbs and therefore has a huge detoxifying effect. Our modern day livers are really overloaded with bad diet, pesticides, herbicides, chemicals in the water we drink and in our homes and so milk thistle liver detox is excellent for helping with that. It is also very effective in stimulating bile production.

It works to protect the liver by altering the structure of the outer membrane of the liver cells, preventing poisons from entering those cells and stimulates the regeneration of damaged cells. It also promotes the release of SOD (superoxide dismutase), a powerful antioxidant that appears to be specifically effective in scavenging the free radicals caused by alcohol in the liver - THIS MEANS IT IS ANTI AGING AS WELL!

It's medicinal uses are well documented and can be used to treat jaundice, help a sluggish liver, blood cleansing, clearing excess hormones from the body, reducing 'bad' cholesterol, increasing your metabolism (so great for weight loss!), ridding the body of toxic metals, helps the skin clear and helps skin conditions such as acne, psoriasis and eczema.

Milk Thistle is absorbed through your intestines, and the cycle it performs makes sure that it is mostly concentrated in the liver. It is great for helping to reverse damage caused by alcohol and is a fantastic antioxidant. It also helps clear the kidneys and can also help shrink an enlarged liver!

It acts as a mild laxative so many people report weight loss as, often during a liver cleanse, people notice an increase in bile production through more bowel movements etc.

This detox is great for those looking to conceive as often, over toxicity in the body can affect fertility.

It's energetic uses are fantastic and milk thistle is often used as a herb for anger, jealousy and envy as these emotions in natropathy are linked to the liver/gallbladder. A detoxified body that feels more pure and light will refresh the mind and give you more strength and enthusiasm! The spirit of a this detox is optimism, recovery and 'life enhancement'.

Uses

You can use the seeds to make a tincture, powdered herb or decoction.

Important Note: Milk Thistle will accelerate detox of the liver so any drugs or medicines will pass through the body quicker so please be aware if taking any antibiotics or prescription medicine etc this will not be helpful. Milk Thistle however is fine with the contraceptive pill

THC Detox

THC or Tetrahydrocannabinol is found in the plant called marijuana. THC
marijuana (9-tetrahydrocannabinol) is the primary active ingredient in
cannabinoids (marijuana). When ingested or smoked, it produces
euphoric effects. Users have impairment of short-term memory and
a reduced ability to learn. Also, it may cause transient episodes of
confusion, anxiety, or even toxic delirium. Long term effects are uncommon, but relatively heavy use may be associated with behavioral
disorders. Marijuana is used by millions of users every year, and
that number continues to grow as more and more evidence uncovers its
positive medical effects and disproves the negative publicity the
drug receives. Marijuana has been proved to be less harmful then
alcohol and cigarettes. With the increase of marijuana smokers the
increase in the cover up and detoxification of marijuana increases as well. This leads to more and more urinary cleansers being marketed and used.

The most popular employer and
government drug test for THC is urine
tests. Marijuana is absorbed into
our fatty tissues and the liver, and
eventually end up in our urine.
Elevated levels of the urinary
metabolite
11-nor-9-tetrahydrocannabinol-9-carb
oxylic acid are found within hours
of exposure and remain detectable
for 3-10 days after smoking. The THC
/ marijuana drug test is based on
the principle of the highly specific
immunochemical reactions between
antigens and antibodies, which are
used for the analysis of specific
substances in biological fluids. The
sensitivity is 50 ng/ml of THC
marijuana.

Detox Diets - Why You Should Avoid Wheat & Dairy

Most detox diets exclude wheat and dairy products. Yet we are always being told that wheat fiber is good for the bowels and that we need dairy products to supply the calcium for strong bones. So why do we need to exclude them when on a detox diet?

Wheat is probably one of the most consumed foods. Many people eat wheat three times a day. Wheat cereal for breakfast, a sandwich for lunch, pasta or pizza for dinner with snacks of muffins, cakes and cookies in between. With so much wheat in our diets it can become a toxin and the detox diet aims to reduce toxins.

Detox

How wheat becomes a toxin.

Detox Diets - Why You Should Avoid Wheat & Dairy

Wheat is a relatively new food for the human race. Ancient man, the hunter-gatherers, lived on meat from the animals they hunted, fish and wild vegetables, fruit, nuts and seeds that they gathered. It was not until the agricultural period that began about 12,000 years ago that wheat and other grains were introduced.

Wheat contains gluten, a family of proteins, that as many as one in three people may be sensitive to. Gluten is also found in rye, barley and oats. The gluten in oats, however, is very different and can be tolerated by many people who react to the other gluten grains.

Genetic testing has discovered that people have simply not adapted to the introduction of wheat into the diet. Researchers have detected gliadin, the principle type of wheat gluten, in the blood of 15% of people they tested.

Your digestive system provides a barrier between the foods you eat and your blood stream but if this barrier breaks down gliadin gets into the blood stream. The immune system reacts to it and it becomes a toxin. Your detox system has to deal with this so all gluten grains including spelt, an ancient wheat, kamut and triticale all contain gluten and are best avoided on a detox diet.

How does the barrier become leaky?

Many things can cause the intestinal barrier to" leak". Drugs, alcohol, food allergies or sensitivities, constipation, gastric infections, aging, nutritional deficiencies are some of the things that can cause damage to the sensitive and delicate lining.

Wheat because of its complex structure is also hard to digest and almost all normal people fail to absorb a large amount of starch from wheat. These starches get fermented by the bacteria in the digestive system which produces acids that damage the lining.

People with many intestinal conditions like Ulcerative Colitis, Crohn's, diverticulitis, Celiac improve when they avoid gluten. Many people are surprised to find that they do react to wheat when they start eating it again after being on a detox diet.

What's wrong with dairy?

Although we are always being told that a daily glass of milk is good for you half the world manages quite well without it. According to genetic researchers human adults were not designed to digest milk. Many southern Europeans, most Asians and many Africans cannot digest milk products. It is only as a result of genetic mutation that some humans tolerate lactose at all.

As many as 75% of people naturally lose the ability to digest the lactose, a milk sugar, once they are weaned. Lactose intolerance can cause gastric upset which causes irritation and a leaky intestinal barrier that places a heavy load on the liver detox system.

One of the most common allergies or intolerance is to cow's milk. Again dairy products appear in many food items as milk protein, whey or casein.

Non organic milk can contain traces of environmental chemicals and hormones which all place an extra burden on the detox system. It makes sense to exclude it when on a detox diet.

What to eat instead.

As so many people have wheat and dairy allergies it has become much easier to find products that do not contain them. Manufacturers have produced cereals, pasta and bread made with non-gluten grains.

Other grains or grain like seeds that can be eaten include brown rice, quinoa, millet, amaranth, buckwheat, gram flour (garbanzo or chickpea flour) and maize.

Dairy alternatives include rice, soy, almond, oat and coconut milks, soy yogurt, pumpkin seed or nut butters and cashew cream. Calcium can be obtained from nuts seeds, leafy vegetables, grains, peas and beans.

So although excluding dairy and wheat when on a detox diet may take some planning you will still be able to eat tasty meals. It will be well worth it when you find that many niggling symptoms disappear and you feel and look so much better.

Is the Lemon Detox Diet Effective?

Yes! A lemon detox diet IS effective for both cleansing and weight loss.

Here's the idea:

Detox

Consuming anything sour makes the liver and gallbladder purge stored toxins. The liver is especially important for weight loss and overall health. When the liver is filled with toxins, it cannot do its critical tasks in metabolizing fat. So that is why it is essential to keep your liver in top working condition.

Is the Lemon Detox Diet Effective?

In a lemon detox diet, you use the juice of a fresh lemon in a cup of hot water in the morning. The morning is when our bodies are in a natural cleansing phase, so it is a good time to consume cleansing foods and juices.

Then, you also use either fresh lemon juice or a slice of a lemon in water that you drink throughout the day. In the lemon detox diet, water is a key component. You should drink at least 64 ounces a day.

Lemon juice provides an added benefit: it also supplies the body with a good dose of vitamin C.

But don't use lemon juice as your sole method of cleansing or weight loss.

Although a lemon detox diet is beneficial, it will not be as effective as a more thorough detox. You will lose more weight and gain more energy by going through a more thorough detox.

In a more thorough detox, you will consume vegetables, fruits, spices, and herbs that are known for their cleansing and fat-burning abilities. Fresh lemon juice is a part of a more thorough detox diet.

But most detox diets (such as Ann Louise Gittleman's Fat Flush Diet) incorporate a detox period of at least two weeks.

This is too long!

Why?

Well, a detox requires that you deprive yourself of most of the things that you love. The longer that a diet requires you to deprive yourself, the lower the chance that you'll STICK with it.

The optimum period for a detox diet is one week. Most people can stick to a restricted diet for that long.

Lemon Detox Diet Recipe - Make it Today

The lemon detox diet recipe is by far the most requested of any of the detox type recipes available online. This is due to the high media coverage the detox diet drink has received on American and British television. I must say though that it does worry me that many who take up this diet do so without consulting their doctor or without any preparation. Before I give you the recipe I'm going to take a little of your time to make sure that your detox experience is as rewarding and safe as possible.

Firstly as I have already said before starting any detox diet plan consult your doctor. We are all unique and just because a detox diet works safely for one person does not mean it is ideal for everybody.

Starting a Water Detox Program

Today, more people are becoming more conscious about the hazardous effects of the chemicals they directly or indirectly take into their bodies. They realize that cancer rates are growing higher and their waistlines are expanding wider. More people are finding out that fast food, alcohol and massive nutrition and diet fads have serious and often fatal consequences. Enter the promise of detoxification.

While many still see detoxification as something new age and "hippie", a lot more people have discovered how detoxification has worked wonders in their lives, from curing diseases to improving their moods.

Detox

A popular way to detox your body is to indulge in a water fast. For most people, a water fast as one of the most difficult things they have embarked on in their lives, yet also the most rewarding. To prepare for a mental fast, you must predict the kind of activities you will be entering in the next few days. Some may fast for as long as three days just to get the feel of how it is. Some people may find a water fast difficult and all they want to do is sleep all day. Other people may find that they are more energetic and vibrant on the water fast. Generally, water fasting is something not to be taken lightly - many people can attest to how profound the experience can be. Living on water makes one realize how we can function with very little and survive with only the essentials.

Starting a Water Detox Program

Before the fast, it is also a good idea to prepare your body by drinking juices (only the fresh kind) and soft, raw food. Breaking in your body gently helps you whether the aggressive surfacing of chemicals that water detoxification can bring. If you don't foresee a first see a lot of pressure and stress in the days after that, it is recommended that you continue your water fast until the end of the week.

Consult a doctor or health care practitioner before you go into a water fast. If you are hyperglycemic, diabetic, hypoglycemic, or have psychological or cardiac issues, you may need to go through another form of detoxification. However if you do get a go signal, here's what you can do: avoid using water straight from the faucet. This kind of water contains a large number of heavy metals, mineral salts, harmful trace elements and some pollutants. Rather, it is recommended that you drink distilled water. Mineral water still has inorganic materials that inadvertently intensifies and triggers the effects of losing chemicals in the body. Be prepared to accompany your water fast with your preferred method of meditation and prayer so you can focus your energies elsewhere as your body lives on impure toxins and fats released during the detoxification process. If it is your first time to fast, it is recommended that alternate jury case of drinking water and fruit juice to ease the impact.

As the fast progresses, you may notice some dizziness, but this is normal because the heart rests itself during a fast. Make sure that you stand up or sit down slowly; this will relieve much of the dizziness. During detoxification, the waste level in our blood goes up, so some people may experience fever and headaches. These will not last long and are soon gone as the water passes through our system.

If you feel that detoxification is too much of a commitment, just make sure that you drink at least 2 liters of clean water every day. Drinking this much (and not a lot of people do) will greatly aid our body in moving nutrients around, cooling us off and removing stored waste and bacteria.

How to Detox My Body at Home - What Are the Cheapest Ways to Detox My Body at Home?

Many people have asked me questions over the years about how to detox my body at home and how to do it cheaply without costing an absolute fortune to do. Fortunately, I have told them what I am about to tell you.

There are numerous things you can do to quickly, safely and naturally detox your body at home and not a lot of people know that they are all natural ingredients and products that you can get from your local store or supermarket.

Detox

How to detox my body at home - the top 3 methods:

How to Detox My Body at Home - What Are the Cheapest Ways to Detox My Body at Home?

1.) Body and Skin Scrubs

As well as via or urinary system, our body also removes toxins through the pores in your skin. If these become clogged with dead skin cells, then it is much more difficult for your body to remove toxins and this puts a bigger strain on your internal organs, which in turn can be bad for your health.

If you exfoliate regularly then this will unclog your pores and you will detox much more quickly. This is a really cheap and simple technique that you can even do in the shower/bath.

2.) Eat Healthily

Seems an obvious one really, but it has two main effects. The first is that by eating better you are putting less toxins into your system to start with. The second, is that by eating lots of fresh fruit and vegetables, you are taking in foods that are high in detox agents and antioxidants which will really boost your body's internal detox system.

3.) Drink plenty of water

Water is absolutely essential for your body to be able to transport toxins out of your body. If you don't drink enough, then it will be retained in your body for hydration purposes and your detox will slow down. Drink more water, it's simple and easy to do and needn't cost you anything!

How to Make the Lemon Detox Diet Drink - The Correct Recipe and Ingredients

Getting this very simple recipe right is crucial to your ultimate result.

Ingredients for the Lemon Detox Drink

Detox

  • 2 Tablespoons Freshly Squeezed Lemon Juice
  • 2 Tablespoons Maple Syrup Grade B
  • 1/10th Teaspoon Cayenne Pepper
  • 8 fl Oz's Pure Water

How to Make the Lemon Detox Diet Drink - The Correct Recipe and Ingredients

Mix all of the ingredients together in a glass and enjoy! Initially you may find the cayenne pepper a little hot, especially if you are not used to spicy food but this is something that you also become accustomed to very quickly.

I was quite surprised at how hot it was when I first tried it but I was soon adding extra cayenne for an even stronger detox towards the end.

You'll need to drink a minimum of 6 detox drinks throughout the day. Somewhere between 8 - 12 is ideal. Make sure that you are also drinking plenty of fresh pure water throughout the day too.

Whenever you start to feel a bit hungry, go and mix yourself a drink. This tends to keep hunger pains at bay pretty quickly. Once you get past day 3, you'll probably find that you will experience very few actual hunger pains although about 1 in 4 people do say that they have regular hunger pains throughout. But don't worry, I've got a good feeling that you'll be one of the lucky other 3!

The drink is best made fresh each time that you want to drink it but this sometimes isn't possible, especially if you are heading off to work. To try and maintain the cleaning power of the lemon enzymes, make a concentrate of the maple syrup and the lemon juice and just add water when you want to drink it.

**TIP**

So if you were planning on drinking 3 drinks whilst you were out, you would need to make up a concentrate of 6 tablespoons of lemon juice and 6 tablespoons of maple syrup.

To make life easier on yourself, take 3 separate bottles of water each containing 8 fl Oz's of pure water but with the capacity for 10 fl Oz's as you will be adding your concentrate to it.

You'll need to pack a tablespoon for measuring and your cayenne to add at the end. (you can add 3/10ths of a teaspoon of cayenne to the concentrate but cayenne tends to get hotter when it hits liquid and is left for a period of time).

Once you're ready for a drink, just get your concentrate out and give it a good shake, then measure 4 tablespoons into the bottle, add your cayenne, shake and drink!

**Tip**

If hunger creeps in just distract yourself. I decided to detox my house whilst I detoxed my body. There is nothing quite like cleaning to keep you focused and distracted. My house had never looked so good by the time I had finished my detox and of course it helps when you get so much more energy than you normally have.

If you don't have a house to clean try some light exercise as this will make you feel great and keep your mind off food. Don't forget to keep drinking the detox drink and replenishing your water supplies.

Free Body Detox at Home

Is it possible to do a body detox at home without having to purchase a system or spend money on juices and special drinks? Yes, there are several things you can do for yourself at home and that cost little or nothing. There are also things you can do at home that are in addition to the body detox program you are already doing.

Of course, the optimum time to start any detox program is when you have the time to focus on it. It's also best to do it when you can be alone or, at the minimum, when you have no other commitments or interruptions and can relax at home.

Detox

Why is it better to be able to stay at home and relax during a body detox? It is because many people are more emotional or experience moodiness during this time. Most people find it difficult to let go of tasty treats they have grown accustomed to. It is probably similar to trying to suddenly stop smoking.

Free Body Detox at Home

A good idea is to plan your free detox for the weekend. You can begin your weekend with a relaxing Friday. Throughout the day eat a light diet and begin cutting out sodas, tea, coffee and other unhealthy items from your diet. You will need to drink a minimum of three liters of water during the day. When attempting to drink this much water it is easier to drink it un-chilled.

Skin Brushing

Skin brushing is another technique that is easy to do at home on your own. It will give you the same result as a spa treatment. Since your skin must be dry, brushing before a bath and before bed is the best and most relaxing time to do it.

What benefits do you get from skin brushing? It stimulates the lymphatic system and encourages the removal of toxins from your body.

Follow these instructions:

o Brush your feet, toes and soles and then the front and back of your legs, brushing upwards towards your hips.

o Brush your lower back using upward strokes. It might be difficult to reach, but do the best you can unless you have someone available to help.

o Brush your hands and arms, brushing towards your armpits.

o Brush across your shoulders and down the chest towards the heart.

o With downward strokes brush the back of your neck.

o Brushing in a circular and clockwise motion, brush your stomach area.

The next day begin your detox system, juice diet, fasting, etc as intended. You might want to keep a journal, carry out breathing exercises, and any other techniques to help increase the total effects of the detox.

Following your body detox you will notice some improvements in how you feel. A detox will refresh your digestive system and your other organs as well so that your body once again starts to process food properly. Your immune system will be revived and you will have more energy for exercising and feel better about yourself. Also, you will have fewer cravings for unhealthy foods. A body detox is a great boost to your entire system.

How Safe is Lemon Juice Detox - Do Not Try it If You Are Looking For a Safe Detox Diet

If you are planning to undergo the Lemon juice detox, then you should continue reading this article. In this article, we will discuss 3 major points, they are - what is this lemonade detox, why is it harmful and does not provide long term result and lastly, what is a better and safer detox diet. After reading this article, you should understand that the famous lemonade detox diet provides only temporary result and is not a rationale approach to your long term health.

The Lemon Juice Detox, which also known as The Master Cleanse, was introduced about 50 years ago. The rationale behind using lemon juice to detox our body is that lemon is a powerful alkalizing agent that can help to restore our body natural state. Whilst the theory seems to be promising, and many people have received great results from it, many people often realize that they only face temporary, short term result. Why is this so?

Detox

The reason why the lemonade detox diet is so famous and provides better result than other detox diets is because it uses lemon as the main detox agent. Lemon is one of the cheapest and strongest alkalizing foods. However, it is extremely harmful and dangerous to purely depend on lemonade for detoxification.

How Safe is Lemon Juice Detox - Do Not Try it If You Are Looking For a Safe Detox Diet

Like many other detoxification diets, the lemonade detox diet requires you to starve yourself for about 7-10 days. Many of us know that it has been medically proven that depriving ourselves of important nutrients will result in low metabolism. Since everyone will start to gain toxin after the diet, someone with relatively lower metabolism will accumulate toxin at a faster rate. Therefore, whilst you might experience great detox result in the beginning, the result often only persist for a short period of time.

A safer approach to detoxing your body should be taking a mild detoxification diet that will not deteriorate your metabolism over the course. This will allow you to maintain or even improve your body metabolism so that you will be able to eliminate toxin faster after the diet (not slower). As a result, you will be able to improve your health for a longer period of time.

In conclusion, while the theory of the lemon juice detox is good, it is not a practical approach towards long term health. A better and safer detox diet should be a diet that can improve your metabolism over the course.

Body Detox - Can You Detox Lyme Disease?

Lyme Disease or tick disease, as it is also known, is an illness caused by an infection with the bacteria Borrelia burgdorferi and is becoming an ever increasing problem. In nearly all cases the infection is is caused by a bite from a tick that is infected with the bacteria.  Many researchers believe that it is an underlying problem in many health problems such as chronic fatigue, fibromyalgia. MS, Lupus and even autism. As detoxification can help these problems people are asking if you can detox Lyme Disease?

Although the bacteria, a spiral shaped spirochete, can often be successfully treated with a course of antibiotics if caught early enough a chronic infection  is a different problem. There are many people with chronic Lyme Disease that were initially wrongly diagnosed or not diagnosed at all. Unrecognized and untreated Borreliosis can cause arthritic and neurological syndromes that become difficult to treat. But a few pioneering nutritional doctors and naturopaths are having success with detox protocols.

Detox

One study indicated that unless toxins are removed from the body the Borrelia bacteria that survive aggressive herbal or even pharmaceutical treatment will regrow forming a new population. Toxins stimulate their growth. So whatever treatment you are getting for Lyme Disease it is important to work hard on getting the toxins out as well with a comprehensive detox program.

Body Detox - Can You Detox Lyme Disease?

Detox Mercury

One of the worst type of toxins involved are heavy metals, especially mercury. Dr Lee Cowden, a physician and clinical nutritionist who treats Lyme with natural therapies says that the most common source of heavy metals  that he sees is mercury from the silver mercury amalgam fillings in peoples' teeth. It is impossible to detox mercury unless the silver mercury amalgams are removed as well because chewing releases more mercury into the body.

There is a special technique that should be used to remove amalgams so that no more mercury is released into the body. Look for a holistic dentist who is knowledgeable in the procedure. There are a number of substances such as liquid zeolite or chlorella and cilantro mixtures that help to detox mercury and other heavy metals.

The bacteria, Borrelia, itself produces toxins that interfere with the immune system and how the nervous system works and gives many of the neurological symptoms seen in chronic Lyme Disease. The toxins interfere with the release of acetylcholine, a neurotransmitter (brain chemical). The conclusions of a recent three month placebo controlled study was that detox was essential for chronic Lyme Sufferers.

Burbur Detox

Burbur is used by some health practitioners as part of a protocol to detox borrelia. Burbur is an extract of a Peruvian plant that has traditionally been used for cleansing and detoxification of the liver, kidneys and lymph.  It helps with the removal of toxic chemicals that suppress and weaken the immune system.

If you have used personal care products such as lipstick, lip balms or skin creams you are probably also toxic with petroleum by products which promote growth of the harmful bacteria. Many creams sold for dry skin contain liquid paraffin, a by product of petroleum, that prevents the natural detox function of the skin.  To detox Lyme Disease you have to avoid putting the toxins back into your body. Look for natural non-toxic personal care and household cleaning products.

Yeast and bacterial overgrowth

Many people with Lyme Disease also suffer with yeast and bacterial overgrowth in the intestines. Long treatments with antibiotics will kill the the good bacteria in the gut and also affect the liver enzymes. Cumanda, another herb from Peru, is one of the natural herbs currently being used as part of Lyme detox and is also a good antifugal which will not kill the good bacteria.

Good detox programs always start with the bowel. A large percentage of the immune system is located in the bowel so colon cleansing and restoring the good bacteria with a good quality, high potency probiotic and a healthy diet is essential if you want to improve your immune system.

Detox can help with most chronic illnesses and people who persevere with a good detox program are finding that their troublesome symptoms diminish and can eventually disappear. So the answer is yes, you probably can detox Lyme Disease.

Detox, Toxins and Your Liver - Taking the Mystery Out of Detox

Does anyone know what detox is?

Some people do, but there are a lot of misconceptions out there.

Detox

Just because things are coming out of your body, it doesn't mean you are detoxing

Detox, Toxins and Your Liver - Taking the Mystery Out of Detox

So many so-called detox products have laxatives in them. Taking laxatives, having more bowel movements, having diarrhea and getting 'cleaned out' is not detoxing anymore than vomiting or hemorrhaging is detoxing. (Sorry to be so blatant, but I want you to understand this.)

Detoxing bars of soap, face washes etc., etc.

Marketing gimmicks. That's all.

Detoxing shampoos.

There are shampoos that completely strip your hair of product build-up, remove chlorine from swimmer's hair and so on. Kind of like floor stripper. Taking product build-up and the like off your hair is good. But you are not detoxing anything. You don't need to detox your hair; hair is dead tissue once it leaves your scalp.

Detox is slang

The word detox is short for detoxification. Our body has naturally occurring pathways of detoxification. To detox or to detoxify is the verb that comes from this.

Wherefore art thou detox pathways?

In the liver. Our body's natural pathways of detoxification are located in the liver.

This is not an alternative health concept; look up p450 system in any physiology book (or on Wikipedia for that matter) and it will be there.

These pathways function 24 hours per day, 7 days per week in everyone, except in cases of genetic abnormalities and some liver disease, to put it very simply.

Where the alternative health industry steps in and confuses everyone

The idea of detoxing came from this:

Our liver's pathways of detoxification can only do so much - they are chemical pathways and like any chemical pathways they have a limit on how much they can do.

Many people have more toxins coming into their system than their liver can handle. Over the last few hundred years there has been a huge increase in pollution, chemicals on and in our food, pharmaceutical drug use and stress levels (a high stress level also causes our body to produce toxins).

Since this increase has been fairly rapid (in terms of evolution a few hundred years is practically nothing), our system has not correspondingly evolved.

That is, the amount of toxins coming into our body has drastically increased, but our capacity to detoxify them has not correspondingly increased.

So things get backed up. (I'm not taking about constipation here.) Think of it as a line up of toxins, waiting to get into the liver to be processed. Waiting and waiting.

Are toxins impatient? Is waiting a problem?

Yes they are and yes it is.

As they wait, they cause damage to tissues and cells.

They create free radicals that speed up aging and wrinkles.

They often get deposited in our tissues - organs, glands, muscles, fat cells. As they sit in our tissues, things in general just don't work as well.

All things being equal, all livers are not so equal

Some people have a liver that detoxifies much more effectively than others. This is just genetics.

Some things slow the liver detox pathways down

Eg. Sugar, alcohol, junk food, skipping meals, fasting (yes, fasting), stress, not enough vitamins and minerals.

Some things speed the liver detox pathways up and/or let them function properly

Eg. Fruits, vegetables, exercise, relaxation techniques, certain herbs, certain supplements.

At some point am I going to tell me what detoxing is versus what it isn't?

Yes; here you go:

Detoxing, in the alternative medicine sense of the word, is using any combination of herbs, supplements, dietary and lifestyle changes to maximize the efficiency of the liver's natural detoxification pathways in order to

(1) Get the backlog of toxins processed.

(2) Allow the body to take some of the toxins from the tissues and process those as well.

Once processed, the toxins can be safely eliminated through the kidneys and bowels.

Detox - Can Mucous Plaque Be Flushed Out?

Let us see what a detox means:

Simply put, a detox is way to clean the insides of your body to make it strong and healthy. There are many detox methods available today and there is one method in which western methods are combined with Chinese medicinal practices. The human body is also a natural detoxifying instrument. Health problems can be classified into two divisions, one is the congestion and the other deficiency. When we have are exposed to bad lifestyle and eating habits like coffee, alcohol, nicotine drugs and processed unhealthy foods, congestion occurs. We should not abuse our body like this as our bodies are needed for all purposes in life.

Detox

What is a herbal detox?

Detox - Can Mucous Plaque Be Flushed Out?

Ordinary detox programs are good enough but they might not be able to thoroughly cleanse our internal organs like kidneys, lymph, colon and liver. The use of herbal detox is easy as they can be done right from our homes. Herbs also contain vital ingredients like vitamins and minerals that are good for us. Herbs in combination with each other can pass on numerous benefits to our body and all round health. Our liver functions can also be strengthened with the use of certain specific herbs. Our bodies function non stop and the result of our metabolism is the urea we flush out in our urine.

Even the healthy can do detox as they can become healthier by a detox program. Even if one follows a good lifestyle, eats the correct food, drinks plenty of water and exercises regularly, he or she will still need to detox regularly because of the environmental pollution around us. Toxins bombard our bodies' everyday, so it is better if we detox once in a way.

What is mucous plaque?

Mucous plaque is a coating that forms on our intestine walls that has a rubbery feel to it. This coating is formed due to the accumulation of toxins. Even if our bodies are healthy, the mucous plaque still forms in the intestines. The mucous plaque prevents the proper assimilation of essential nutrients in our bodies. This causes skin problems, constipation, migraines and lowered metabolism. Mucous plaque can be eliminated by the use of a detox program.

In a detox diet, meat and diary products are avoided and vegetables, fruits and water are recommended to be taken. The detox diet can last up to a week in time. The dieter can switch back to normal food gradually once the detox program is over. The detox diet lays emphasis on laying off on all processed unhealthy foods. The detox diet flushes out all present toxins inside the body. All important organs like the kidneys, liver, lungs, colon and the lymphatic system can be cleaned by a good detox system. The toxins are flushed out through our urine, excreta and sweat.

There are tow very simple detox methods like sauna and steam. How does sauna and steam help us in detoxifying our bodies? It is done by heating our body temperature, which in turn speeds up our circulation and also reduces muscular pain and also gives us great looking skin. This is mainly done through our perspiration. There is also belief in certain quarters that sauna and steam even flushes our sweat away through our sweat.

Detox: 3 Enemas to Use With Your Detox Plan

An enema is the way of putting fluid into the rectum or back passage through the anus to cleanse the large intestine or bowel. It is probably the most controversial and disputed procedure to include in a detox plan .

For centuries, enemas were routinely done in homes and prescribed by medicine men and doctors for all sorts of ailments but in more recent times their regular use for health has largely died out. Although disposable enemas are still frequently used for severe constipation and they are used by doctors before colon X-rays, bowel surgery and childbirth.

Detox

It is often claimed that the use of enemas is not natural but history tells us that people in most regions of the world have discovered the use of enemas. American Indians made crude enema kits from an animal bladder and a hollow leg bone. Pre-Columbian South Americans are credited with the invention of the first rubber enema bag and tubes.

Detox: 3 Enemas to Use With Your Detox Plan

What do enemas do?

Enemas help release the waste that is in the colon. The longer toxic waste stays in the bowel the more chance there is that toxins are reabsorbed into the body making you feel ill and weak. The use of enemas during an intensive detox will help clear out toxins much more quickly. They are especially useful to help relieve detox reactions or a healing crisis. Coffee enemas can stimulate the liver to discharge more toxins and bile.

Any change of diet can bring about a change in your bowel habits and it's not uncommon for bowels to slow down during a detox diet or juice fast. Juice fasting or feasting does not supply fiber to keep the bowels moving so the use of enemas or other means of cleansing the colon is important to get the toxins out.

What to put in an enema?

Many different types of solutions have been used for enemas from plain water to herbs, green soap, coffee, Bentonite clay and Epsom Salts. Here are three good enemas to use on a detox diet.

Bentonite Clay

Bentonite has a negative charge which attracts positively charged toxins like a magnet and removes them from the bowel. Mix 2 oz. to 4 oz of Bentonite Clay into 1 quart (2 pints/1 liter) warm filtered water just slightly hotter than body temperature.

Epsom Salts

Epsom Salts is probably best known as a laxative. Epsom Salts is magnesium sulphate which draws water into the bowel and helps to flush it. It can make a nice detox bath too.  Use 2 tablespoons Epsom salts for each quart or liter of pure water.

Coffee

Coffee enemas are probably the most controversial although they are central to the Gerson Therapy and the Kelly and Gonzales detox programs for cancer. They are often ridiculed by main stream medicine and bear the brunt of numerous jokes although they were apparently mentioned in the older editions of the Merck Manual, a handbook for medical physicians.

The caffeine stimulates the liver and gall bladder to discharge bile. Toxins that the liver has neutralized are eliminated in the bile so increasing the bile helps to detoxify the body. Substances known as palmitates in coffee have been shown to stimulate glutahione-S-transferase the enzymes that aid liver detox. The coffee also has a stimulating effect on the bowel and is great for increasing the flushing effect.

They can make you feel good and can be overused which causes mineral imbalances.  To prevent this you should have at least 3 x 8 oz glasses of juice for every coffee enema. One enema a day during juice fasting or a detox diet is usually sufficient. If you are are sensitive to caffeine try a mixture of half coffee and half chamomile tea or make the coffee half strength.

How to make a coffee enema

Bring a quart (liter) of distilled or pure water to a gentle boil in a pan and add three rounded  tablespoons of organic filter ground coffee.  Allow to boil for 3 minutes and then cover and simmer on low heat for a further 15 minutes. Strain through fine muslin and allow to cool to body temperature before using.

It can take practice to hold it in for 10 or 15 minutes. If you have trouble holding it you can just try a small amount and release it when you have to and then try again. Repeat this until you have used all the solution. You might find it easier to clear your bowel first with a plain water enema. Next time you go on a detox or do a juice fast try an enema and see what difference it makes.

Detox - Challenge Yourself to a Fruit & Vegetable Detox

There are many healthful benefits to a fruit and vegetable detox. Nutritionists recommend eating at least five servings per day in order to improve your health and reduce the risk of certain diseases such as cancer and heart disease. One of the best ways to accomplish this is with a fruit and vegetable detox.

You can challenge yourself to have a healthier lifestyle by changing some of your eating habits. For example, when you get the urge to snack, replace potato chips with raw vegetables. Replace that caffeine and calorie laden soda with fresh fruit or vegetable juice. Eat a salad for lunch instead of the fast food combo meal.

Detox

Before you know it, you are participating in a fruit and vegetable detox diet that will improve your health and restore your body's natural detoxification process.

Detox - Challenge Yourself to a Fruit & Vegetable Detox

Years of unhealthy eating habits have contributed to a build up of harmful substances in the body that are not easily removed through the natural detox process. You may be experiencing loss of sleep, anxiety, loss of energy and weight gain as a result.

A fruit and vegetable detox which includes raw and unprocessed foods will cleanse your body and help to improve your sleep, bowel movements and build a resistance to diseases.

A rich diet of almost any type of fruit that is fresh or frozen and full of fiber is much better than eating junk food. Apples, bananas, pears, lemons, raisins, pineapple, mango, kiwi and melons are just a few sources that you can eat to detox your body. Some of the best vegetables are carrots, turnips, cabbage, tomatoes, broccoli Brussels sprouts and green leaves.

The importance of fiber for your digestive system cannot be stressed enough. Scientific studies have repeatedly shown the lasting benefits of a fruit and vegetable detox. The following list describes the importance of eating more fruits and vegetables.

  • Fruits and vegetables can reduce the risk for stroke and other cardiovascular diseases.
  • Fruits and vegetables can reduce your risk of getting type 2 diabetes.
  • Eating fruits and vegetables which contain lots of potassium will decrease bone loss and the development of kidney stones.
  • Protection against stomach and colon cancers with a fruit and vegetable diet.
  • Fruits and vegetables are a low calorie way to maintain a healthy weight and body mass index.

A fruit and vegetable detox diet should not be seen as merely a weight loss fad, but rather as a way of life. Once you see and feel the difference in your body and the improved performance of your digestive system, eating the right foods will become more than a habit. It will become a way of life.

Detox - 6 Golden Rules For a Successful Summer Detox

Although we tend to think of detox in January after the heavy food and excesses of winter and the holiday season summer is an ideal time to detox. When the weather is warmer it is so much easier to follow the detox diet of plenty of fruit and fresh salads and leave the heavy stodgy hard to digest food behind.

By following a 7 - 14 day detox plan that focuses on nutrient packed fresh foods close to their natural state and avoiding processed foods laden with sugar, fat, salt and artificial additives you will allow your body to function more efficiently.

Detox

There is no need to starve yourself or go hungry. By eating food that is packed with vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and fiber you will feel much more satisfied and still be able to shed those extra pounds. Restricted diets slow down your metabolism.

Detox - 6 Golden Rules For a Successful Summer Detox

6 Golden Rules for a Successful Summer Detox.

1. Cut out the Junk

Avoid fast foods, processed foods, ready meals, salty snacks, fizzy drinks, high fat foods, foods high in sugar like cookies, chocolate, cakes, and most ready made desserts. These foods often contain artificial additives that poison your body. They lack vitamins, minerals and fiber that your body needs for the detox system to function efficiently. Limit red meat and dairy products as they are often contain hormones and antibiotic residues.

2. Feast on Fresh Whole Foods

Eating foods in their natural state will provide your body with high levels of nutrients that will support your body's detoxification system improving your health. Food starts to loose its nutrients once it is stored so look for fruit and vegetables that are in season and not imported. Organically produced food has more nutrients and taste and no toxic pesticides.

3. Eat a High Raw Diet.

Many vitamins and minerals are lost from food by cooking. It is easy to eat a high raw fruit and vegetable diet on a summer detox by juicing your fruit and vegetables or making them into smoothies, uncooked blended soups and salads.

Some foods need to be cooked to make them more palatable and easier to digest and steaming them lightly will help to retain their nutrients better than boiling them. You can stir-fry food in a little liquid instead of heating oil to a high temperature which will damage it and create toxic substances.

Living salads and sprouted seeds and beans are readily available in many supermarkets and whole food markets and stores.

4. Rehydrate.

Your body contains a high proportion of water and needs enough pure water to function efficiently.

Tap water is usually high in chlorine, fluoride and drug residue which are detrimental to health use filtered water. A glass of pure water with the juice of half an organic lemon is a good cleansing drink first thing in the morning.

Replace coffee and regular tea with fruit and vegetable juices, herbal or fruit teas. Green tea is high in antioxidants but still contains caffeine so avoid drinking too many cups. Aim to have 6 - 8 glasses of fluid a day and more in hot weather or when you exercise.

5. Essential Exercise.

Exercise helps the blood and lymph circulate to all the organs to take them nutrients and collect the wastes to be eliminated via the detox organs. Daily brisk walking, or rebounding is essential. Swimming in chlorine free pools, and running at least 4 times a week is beneficial.

Don't forget to brush your skin daily with a natural bristle brush to help with lymph circulation and make your skin glow.

6. Avoid Re-tox.

Look for natural personal care products to reduce the toxic chemicals that are absorbed from your skin. Buy natural household cleaning products that do not pollute the environment. Many are highly toxic when inhaled.

Although you won't get rid of a lifetime of toxins during a 7 or 14 day detox it will help to make you more aware of what you are putting into your body and learn to become attuned to what it really needs. If you stick to the principles of a healthy detox diet you will feel good and look good and dramatically improve your health.

Detox - How to Know If You Need to Detox

Do you need to detox? Consider this: we live on a poisoned planet. The air we breathe is full of automobile and manufacturing emissions. The water we drink and bathe in is chlorinated and fluoridated, and the toxins from the plastics all around us are harming us. And that's just the beginning. Our poisoned planet is poisoning US.

Yes, it's depressing. But the reality is that even if we eat perfectly healthful diets (which we don't), our bodies get toxic. Toxic, as in, poisoned...to a degree. That's because lots of the stuff that goes into us (like from plastics, for example) our bodies can't get rid of. They just were not created to deal with these unnatural things. So, our bodies store them, locked away. But they're not truly locked away, no. They cause our bodies to develop dis-ease: to not function right. To not feel well.

Detox

Do you feel well? Do you have as much energy as you should?

Detox - How to Know If You Need to Detox

I have an electric teapot. It boils water very quickly. It comes in handy. I also have very hard mineral containing tap water. (It's less when I use my filtered water, but it's still there. And no, I'm not advising folks to drink tap water! ) After several days of use, the teapot gets a hard white film on the bottom of it. I can swish some of it away, but if I don't do anything about it, it will continue to grow. Until one day I heat up water for some herbal tea, pour it in my cup, and see gross flakes of white stuff floating around. Yuck.

So, I need to clean that stuff off. Break it up, dissolve it. I pour some white vinegar on it and let it sit for an hour and presto! It's gone. Just like that. Of course, it will build up again, but I know how to clean it.

The same concept applies to many things. If you want to have a house you enjoy, you must declutter it. If you want a kitchen without bugs, you must clean it. And if you want a body that feels good and works well, you must detoxify it. All things must get cleaned and maintained to work properly. What's more important than taking care of your body so that you can feel good and have good health?

How do you know whether or not you need to detox? It's quite simple. If you're sick, you need to detox. If you feel great but know you don't eat as healthfully as you should, you need to detox. And if you feel great, eat a perfect diet, but live anywhere near plastic, EMF's or basically anywhere on this planet, you need to detox.

Remember that your body simply was not built to deal with the things it encounters in today's world. Every so often you can "give it a good scrub," and it will feel great.

You don't have to be a "health nut" in order to consider doing a detox; my entire family (including young children) recently participated in a gentle detox program. A combination of diet modification and supplements is all that is needed. And changing your diet alone can do great things.

Think about it.
